DICK received his B.S. in Geosciences from The Pennsylvania State University in 1983 and his M.S. in Geology from West Virginia University in 1987, where he spent two years working as a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant. From 1985 to 1987, Dick worked as a Geologist for the West Virginia Geological Survey. From 1987 until 1989, he worked at the U.S. Department of Energy Technology Center as a Geologist in the Unconventional Gas Resources Division. In 1989, Dick joined Texaco USA Offshore Division, as a Geoscientist, where he worked eight lease sales resulting in successful bids on more than 20 prospects in Offshore Louisiana and Texas. Dick was responsible for generating and drilling over 40 wildcat and development locations in the Gulf of Mexico Shelf and Flex-trend from 1992 to 1999, with over a 90% success rate. He also coordinated proprietary and spec 3D survey purchases from 1994 to 1999. He was one of the pioneering geologists for horizontal drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, planning and drilling 18 horizontal wells between 1993 and 1997. Dick gained accolades from his discovery of Eugene Island Block 354 Field, where he completed 17 consecutive successful wells from 1995 through 1997, resulting in peak production of over 12,000 BOPD. He then developed the DART (Discovered Abandoned Reserves Team) concept while serving as a Shelf Exploration Team Leader from 1997 until 1999. While at Texaco, he served as a lead internal consultant for log analysis and formation evaluation using FMI and Numar tools between 1993 and 1997. He was considered a primary resource by Texaco Asset Teams worldwide for advice on Low Resistivity Pay analysis.
In 1999, Dick joined Murphy Exploration and Production Company as a Senior Geologist, where he was responsible for all lease sale and development geology activities for the central Gulf of Mexico Shelf. In 2001, Dick joined Anadarko Petroleum Corporation as a Staff Geologist, where he continued to work integrating 3-D seismic and sub-surface data to re-develop several mature giant (>100 MMBOE) oil fields. His work led to several on-going drilling and re-completion programs, as well as two significant acquisitions of producing properties.
Dick left Anadarko in 2004 as a principal partner in GoMex Energy.
